On POD craft stores, you can find almost everything you need. Your sewing abilities and the quality of your materials will determine the quality of your custom Santa hats. The amount of fabric or felt you’ll need is determined by the number of guests you’ll be hosting and the size of the hats you’ll be sewing. Santa hats are often made of felt, but we also propose fleece, faux fur, or velvet.

The hat’s topper is made of white pom poms. If you’re aiming for the traditional white topper or if you discover different colors, we recommend getting the pompoms, then custom them as you wish.

Step 1: Head Size Measurements

To cut the right shape for the hat, first of all, you’ll need to design a pattern. Due to the fact that you can’t possibly know all of your guest’s head sizes. Let’s suppose that everyone has a head circumference of 22 to 23 inches. Then assume they’ll be larger, and go with 23 just in case. The reason behind this is that it is much simpler for your guests to re-adjust a huge hat to fit their head than a tiny one.

The heads of babies and toddlers are about 12 to 16, while children and teenagers can be from 16 to 22. If you want to create customized hats, then follow the same methods as above, but modify the sizes.

Step 2: Cut Triangles to Shape Custom Santa Hats

Since we’ll use 23 inches for this example, we now take this number and a half it. On a piece of paper, I drew an isosceles triangle, with its base measuring half of your head size. The hat’s height depends on you, but for adults, it is usually around 14 inches and 13 inches for children. This is where the piece of string comes in. If we cut the triangle now and use it as the pattern, the shape won’t account for the curve of the head and won’t fit, so your pattern should have a curved base to curve along with your head.

Take the string and tie your pencil to one end and then take the other end and hold it at the highest tip of the triangle. Your string should be long enough that when you place the pencil on the center of the base, the string is taut. From there, move your pencil left and right; it should form an equal arch inside the triangle. You can draw the curve by hand, but I wouldn’t recommend it because it might come out unequal. Cut out the pattern.

Step 3: Trace and Cut the Fabric

Place the pattern on top of a piece of folded fabric with the wrong side facing out and one of the triangle’s longer sides parallel to the fabric’s fold. Trace the pattern with a marker or tailor’s chalk. Pin the folded fabric into place and cut the pattern out.

Give the base and the other longer side about half an inch allowance for the seam. Without the seam, you will use up part of the hat to sew it on the inside and make it smaller than it should be.

Step 4: Sewing Custom Santa Hats

Sew the two edges of the hat. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can hand sew. However, with a large-scale party, hand sewing is quite time-consuming.

You can also use a glue gun or fabric glue to make it quicker. However, we found sewing really helps hold the hat together.

Step 5: Sew the White Trim

Cut a white trim that is an inch longer than the size of your head. As for the width, it should be twice the width you want plus half an inch. Because when you sew, you will fold the white trim in half and sew the hem to shape. For example, if you want your hat to have a 3-inch trim, you must cut the white trim with the size of 24 inches by 6.5 inches.

Sew the seams with a straight stitch using white thread. With the incorrect sides facing out, fold the trim in half. Sew the two ends together to form a circle with the wrong side facing out.

Step 6: Attach the White Trim to the Hat

Make sure the right side of the hat is facing out. Sew the bottom border of the hat with white or red thread after sliding half of the trim inside.

Try to match the hat’s side seam with the trim’s seam for an attractive appearance. Fold the rest of the trip over the hat.

Step 7: Pompom Time!!!!!

To attach pom poms, you can either use glue or sew directly. Gluing may not be as strong as sewing, especially in parties that incorporate dance and movement games.

If you really want a soft hat that is eye-catching and doesn’t cost much, you can buy some cotton wool. Then take a hand-sized amount of cotton and wrap it in a white cloth. Sew the edges of the fabric together to form a circle, then attach it to your hat.

Step 8: Add Custom Santa Hats Decoration

You have completed the traditional Santa hat. Now it’s time to use the designs you’ve chosen on the POD sites. Add some stickers for gingerbreads, light bulbs, or pine trees. Or you can print the fabric with a special pattern and sew it on your hat.

However, be careful with heavy decorations or your guests will feel uncomfortable worrying they will fall off at any moment.

Making your own custom Santa hats for Christmas may take more time and effort. However, when Christmas comes and your guests arrive, they will be sure to love your efforts and will be able to wear these hats again the next Christmas season.

However, what if you still want to be praised by your friends but do not have the time and are not skillful? Try ordering on reputable e-commerce sites. They always have up-to-date POD custom Santa hats designs as you wish. No more worry about buying excess materials, or the products you make are not as eye-catching as you think.
